Cécile McLorin Salvant Quintet at Pori Jazz Festival 2022
Only a few jazz artists have gained such appraise over the past few decades as Cécile McLorin Salvant. The American singer has released five studio albums of which WomanChild (2013) was nominated and For One to Love (2015), Dreams and Daggers (2017) and The Window (2018) have won the Grammy Award for Best Jazz Vocal Album. She’s been well appreciated by DownBeat magazine’s critics charts and in 2020 she received the coveted MacArthur Fellowship, commonly but unofficially known as the “Genius Grant”. Next year – if possible – her career will make yet another amazing leap forward as she will release her first album on the prestigious Nonesuch record label. The theme of the album will be ghosts and it will feature eight original compositions alongside some covers. The sneak-peaks of the songs have received rave reviews and it’s easy to predict that her long-awaited Finnish debut will be indelible.
