The Intercontinental Hotel at the Wharf
This was a gorgeous hotel! My family and I stayed here for Christmas this year. We’ve been doing non-traditional holidays where we gather with family from across the country at a hotel - it takes the pressure off everyone to cook/clean and we get to see new things and try new places. Great hotel design and great service. We only wished that the rooftop access was open so we could enjoy the water views up there. Our rooms had small balconies overlooking the Wharf which were entertaining for our dogs as well. The hotel was pet-friendly and also had a great gym. Next time I would try some of their spa services. One note - we ordered some light drinks at the lobby bar (sodas, waters) which were way overpriced!

Sette Osteria (Dupont Circle)
We drove here for Christmas Dinner. The prix fixe menu that I selected was Carpaccio di Tonno with Arugula (appetizer), Branzino (entree), Tartufo (dessert). It was delicious! The service was good, not great. Visit the Sette Osteria website.

BYOC…bring your own caffeine! When I first started traveling a lot, I would wake up and have to search for my caffeine immediately. Depending on where I was, it could be nearly impossible to find a decent place. Or, I could be stuck with inedible instant coffee…or worse…no coffee! I have since switched to tea and try to grab a couple of extra tea bags when I can (from hotels, lounges, etc) to keep in my travel bags for caffeine emergencies. I also buy my favorite teas in bulk at home so I can pack a few in every suitcase. It makes a huge difference and saves time on the road to have my essentials with me for a strong start to the day.

I became a tea-drinker about a year ago and first encountered Harney & Sons tea at the Delta Sky Club lounges (they’ve since changed tea brands…sad!). I was so happy to see that The Intercontinental Hotel had Harney & Sons tea. My two favorites are the Hot Cinnamon Spice and the Paris teas. I’m always drinking tea on the road and this brand makes me so happy…it’s the little things!
