One of today’s best Big Bands, an ambassador of Afro-American culture and owner of a repertoire that spans the history of jazz with extraordinary mastery, will celebrate the fiftieth anniversary of the Cervantino. The group, led by acclaimed trumpeter and composer Wynton Marsalis, is extraordinarily versatile. He performs a wide repertoire ranging from original compositions and commissioned works to rare historical compositions and masterpieces by Duke Ellington, Count Basie, Fletcher Henderson, Thelonious Monk, Mary Lou Williams, Dizzy Gillespie, Benny Goodman, Charles Mingus and many others. Marsalis’s musical heritage combined with his brilliant classical career is added to the excellence of fifteen soloists considered among the best jazz performers in the world.
