Be our guest! Victor Goines & Friends: Live and Free Jazz Concert at Woodlawn Cemetery
Renowned composer and JALC musician, Victor Goines, will perform The Woodlawn Suite, a piece he was commissioned to write and perform by the Woodlawn Conservancy. The piece consists of a series of musical biographies that celebrate the lives and legacies of inspiring figures memorialized at The Woodlawn Cemetery, such as Duke Ellington, Bert Williams, Florence Mills, Coleman Hawkins and a special tribute to the first women millionaire and business entrepreneur, Madam C.J. Walker, whose confidence and swagger inspired Victor to write a tune in her honor. While there is no charge for admittance, you must pre-register. The performance will take place on the field, adjacent to the subway entrance to cemetery. Visitors are welcome to bring lawn chairs or blankets. The Woodlawn Suite is made possible by the New York State Council on the Arts with the support of the Office of the Governor and the New York State Legislature.
