Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra w/ Wynton Marsalis in Luxembourg City
The idea of creating a place in New York dedicated entirely to jazz became reality in 1987, when Jazz at Lincoln Center was founded, an institution taking up residence in a location central to culture and education in the USA. The fact that jazz literally has a home next door to institutions such as the New York Philharmonic and the Juilliard School, is mainly thanks to the unrelenting efforts of Wynton Marsalis. As the charismatic bandleader of the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra, the trumpet player has established the 15-piece band as a force to be reckoned with in New York’s musical life. Building on decades of experience, the members of the ensemble present season after season in artistic selfadministration. Their return to the Philharmonie for two concerts during the 2022/23 season will demonstrate what passionate and continuous artistic work can create.
The first performance of the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra takes place in the Grand Auditorium: a breath-taking evening of swing. The programme consists of jazz standards and works written by Wynton Marsalis. Virtuoso solo passages highlight each individual member of this high-carat big band, yet the formation is sure to impress with its collective brilliance as well.
