Cécile McLorin Salvant Quintet at Festival St.-Paul de Vence
As a trilingual singer, composer, visual designer and feminist, Cécile McLorin Salvant has managed to accomplish a feat in her own right by moving between different influences like Vaudeville and jazz, blues and baroque music, Billie Holiday and Kurt Weil etc. seemingly with complete ease. Nevertheless, she touches difficult topics (for instance ecology and diaspora) in a way that is playful to such an extent that the audience isn’t crushed by the graveness, but rather inspired (or maybe even enraptured).
