Celebrate the global language of jazz and the spirit of place in Marsalis’ Swinging Cities, program highlighting Wynton Marsalis’ final season as artistic director of Jazz at Lincoln Center and music director of the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra.

Marsalis’ Swinging Cities features compositions inspired by his global journeys and connections made worldwide. The program will include works such as Vitoria Suite, inspired by the Basque city in Spain; Shanghai Suite, which captures the fast-paced musical textures of China’s financial hub; and Marciac Suite, a nod to the French village known for its massive jazz festival.

“This is a celebration of the uncommon embrace and unflagging support I have received from different cities during my nearly five decades on the road,” Marsalis says.

This will be the eighth appearance at Penn State by Jazz at Lincoln Center with Wynton Marsalis. The bandleader also has performed at Eisenhower Auditorium with a sextet, and in 2020 in a virtual performance of The Democracy Suite! featuring his septet.
